Well rooted in the jazz tradition, Tristan Geary’s music is as experimental as it is swinging, informed by both his study of jazz piano and orchestral and ensemble composition. He has performed in a variety of mediums from solo to big band in New York and abroad. With original pieces both raucous and restrained, improvised eclecticism that is joyous and spontaneous, and jazz repertoire in the tradition of mid century bebop and beyond, Tristan presents performances of genre blending music equal parts infectious swing and atmospheric sonic storytelling. Born in London, Tristan is based in both the U.S. and Europe, and graduated from Bard College in 2020 with a degree in jazz performance and composition. Aside from playing, Tristan also writes about music, his writing has appeared in The New York Times, The New York City Jazz Record, Times Union, Sound of Boston, and more.
